ROCHELLE — Jerry Allen Withrow, 83, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024 at his home in Rochelle, Illinois. Jerry was born on October 2, 1941 to Floyd A. and Opal S. (Orr) Withrow in Mt. Erie. On April 16, 1965, he married Shirley Ann Spencer in Rochelle. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2023. He proudly served with the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He had many interesting stories to share from his deployment. Jerry worked for the United States Postal Service in Rochelle for 37 years before retiring. After he retired, he worked for DAK Management in the maintenance department.
Jerry and his wife, Shirley, were up for any and all activities and participated to the maximum in all ways. In their younger years, Jerry raced stock cars, while Shirley was into drag racing. They both enjoyed bowling and playing Bingo together. They decided to try their hand at being a restaurant owner for a few years. Jerry collected baseball cards and attended many baseball card shows. He was a great carpenter, who in his free time built a few homes. Family vacations were a favorite as he loved spending time with his family.
Jerry is survived by his three daughters: Julie (Dave) Christopherson of Rochelle, Jodi Withrow of LaSalle, IL and Jan (Johnny) Smith of Rochelle; five grandchildren: Ryan (Annie) Christopherson, Tyler (Lindsey) Christopherson, Priscilla Withrow, Caleb and Lilyana Smith and six great grandchildren: Arelyn and Josie Withrow, Willow, Summer, Alexander and Genevieve Christopherson; his brother, Bob Withrow of Rochelle and sister, Sharyn (Larry) Galloway of Rochelle.
In addition to his parents and wife, Shirley, he is predeceased by his sister, Barbara Withrow, sister-in-law, Dee Withrow and brother-in-law, Joe Galloway.
There will be a memorial service held at 6:00 P.M., Monday, November 11, 2024 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle with Joy Alsop officiating and military services provided by the Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard. Prior to the service will be a memorial visitation from 5:00 - 5:50 P.M. at the funeral home. A memorial will be established. Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home.
