MALTA — Joan "JoAnn" A. Berg, 90, of Malta, IL passed away Friday, March 7, 2025 in DeKalb, IL.  Joan was born January 27, 1935 in Rochelle, IL the daughter of Merritt and Helen (Lazier) Leonard.  She married Robert L. Berg July 1, 1954 in Esmond, IL.  Joan was a nurse over the years, finishing out her career at Oak Crest in DeKalb, IL.

Joan is survived by her husband of 70 years, Robert; two children: Gary (Kathy) Berg of Bloomington, IL and Judy Zitkus of DeKalb, IL; six grandchildren: Joe (Kelly) Zitkus of Santa Clarita, CA, Anthony (Krystle) Zitkus of Granite Bay, CA, Phillip Zitkus of Chattanooga, TN, Anji (Mark) Sturgill of Sebastian FL, Amanda Clucas and Archer Berg both of Bloomington, IL; great grandchildren: Penny Zitkus, Zachary Zuckerman, Tobias Atchison and Jeffrey Sturgill.  Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Kathi Berg. 

The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Eric Shepard for his compassion during a difficult time, the nursing staff at Kishwaukee Hospital and DeKalb Rehab and Nursing Center for the wonderful care provided and Dr. Thomas Michalson for 40 years of care and friendship.

Public visitation will be 9:00-11:00 AM, Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home in Rochelle.  Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, immediately following the visitation with Pastor Joy Alsop officiating .  Burial will follow at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle.
