CRESTON — Joyce Fay Whitaker passed away peacefully Monday, August 26, 2024 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.  Joyce was born on June 3, 1941 in Vanndale, Arkansas, the daughter of Elmer and Cora (Waters) Smith.  In May of 1960, she married Joe Whitaker.  They had 38 loving years together before his death in 1998.

Joyce was a hair dresser for over 40 years.  Her family was her whole world. She lived a life filled with joy and compassion that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Joyce will be forever cherished by her children, Joe Whitaker and Lisa (Mark) Borseth; her precious grandchildren: Kelley, Jessica, Cora, Demi, Niki, and Ryan; six great grandchildren: Daniel, Serenity, Joseph, Isaiah, Lily, and Skye and great great granddaughter, Eleanora and soon to be baby Roos.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by two daughters: Sherry and Donna; twin sister, Lois; sisters: Geneva and Aline and brothers: Willie and Elmer.

The joy she brought, the kindness she showed and the love she shared will be forever missed by her family and friends.

There will be a graveside service at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Woodlawn Cemetery with Judy Williams officiating.  Memorials may be made in Joyce’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Visit www.ungerhorner.com to sign the online guest book.
