OREGON — Independence Day at Ogle County Airport starts with the pop-pop swoosh, of piston powered aircraft coming in for an all-you-can-eat 4th of July breakfast.
The annual “best in the Midwest” breakfast starts at 7 a.m. and runs until 11 a.m. The breakfast includes Eichman’s tasty ham and whole hog sausage, cantaloupe, scrambled eggs, hash browns and stacks of pancakes with blueberry and other toppings. This feast will be served by volunteers and pilots at the Ogle County Airport for only $10. The breakfast is a fundraiser for the non-taxpayer-supported airport and attracts hundreds of small private airplanes from several states each year.

This is a wonderful opportunity to have the whole family enjoy the sights and sounds of airplanes at the grass strip airport located on IL Route 64 between Mount Morris and Oregon. There is no charge to view the airplanes and parking is free.
Frequently, old military training planes will fly in and do fly-bys. Some of these planes will trail white smoke as they fly-by in an old tradition of air shows. Spraying special paraffin into the manifold produces the smoke.
The airport was recognized in 2007 by IDOT as “Airport of the Year”, in part, because of the many and continuing improvements made at the airport. Flight instruction, biennial reviews, tail wheel check outs, and other aviation services are available at the airport. The airport is the home base for the Rock River Flyers flying club.
