ROCHELLE — Kimberly “Kim” Ann Osborne, 64, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at UChicago Medicine AdventHealth Hinsdale with her loving husband Richard Osborne of 45 years by her side. Kim was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother to her family whom she always put first. She had an unparalleled zest for life and the countryside.
Kim was born on June 16, 1960 to Floyd Schlickman and Barb (Blume) Smites in Rockford, IL. Kim was sister to younger brother Tyler Schlickman. The two spent their youth running through the woods, raising horses, and riding motorcycles. Some of Kim’s fondest memories were also attending the local Kings School.
In 1978, Kim graduated from Rochelle High School. It was during those high school years, that Kim met the love of her life Richard and on August 18, 1979, they were married. The couple were known to be inseparable and to form an everlasting partnership. In three years time, Kim became a mother to three children: Nicole “Nikki”, Jennifer “Jen” (Tim), and Kyle.
While Kim valued her time raising her children. She was known for her innovation and creativity which led to working with several organizations both as a volunteer and employee. Kim spent several years making her own clothes and selling home interiors. From there, she went on to be a hospital auxiliary for the gift shop at Rochelle Hospital. Some of her most treasured memories and friendships were those forged through Girl Scouts as a volunteer, troop camp trainer, camp director, and Camp McCormick manager. Her work earned her multiple accolades. Finally, she spent twenty-two years with Del Monte Foods.
Kim was a special person, cherished by all who knew her. She could bring people together, share stories, and cultivate an energetic atmosphere. Kim loved her people with all her heart and often shared her passions. Whether it was her love of nature and flowers or traveling to her beloved Aruba, Kim knew how to impart her beautiful gifts onto the world.
Kim served in many roles over the course of her life but none other with more happiness than that of grandmother to “the loves of her life:” Abby, Emma, Hailey, and Addyson.
Kim is survived by her husband, Richard; father, Floyd; brother, Tyler; sister-in-law, Dawn; three children, Nicole, Jen, Kyle; and four grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Hailey, and Addyson. She was preceded in death by her mother Barb Smice, her grandfather and grandmother Al and Jean Blume, father and mother-in-law Richard “Dick” Osborne and Jacqueline Pickle.
Kim will be remembered for her vivacious outlook and endearing smile.
Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th Street in Rochelle with Chaplain Rick Eldred officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Contributions in Kim’s memory may be directed to Kings School.
