WESTON, Wis. — Larry Robert “LR” Ranken, age 83, passed away on April 15, 2025, in Weston, Wisconsin. Born on August 18, 1941, in Rochelle, Illinois, Larry lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a spirited sense of humor that endeared him to many.
From a young age, Larry found his calling behind the wheel, he began driving semi-trucks, hauling heavy equipment and precast materials with skill and dedication. His career took him through several respected companies—Helfrich Trucking, TEC Trucking before he ultimately joining Ranken Trucking. His commitment to the road was matched only by his pride in his work and the camaraderie he shared with fellow drivers.
Larry’s personal life was as full as his professional one. He shared a unique and enduring bond with his wife Patricia Ranken — they married not once but twice — demonstrating a love that stood the test of time. Together they had large family in which he loved dearly: son David (Michelle) Hare; daughters Deanne (Brian) Rogers, Dana (Joe) Williams, Donna (Terry) Johnson; son Larry (Tonda) Ranken; and daughter Belynda (Francis) Charbonneau. Larry also cherished his siblings: sister Linda (Jerry) Palumbo, brother Lyle (Sally) Ranken, and sister Lois (Vance) Hultgren.
He was blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. Whether fishing by the water’s edge or working on one of his many woodworking projects, Larry loved spending time with them sharing stories, laughter, and lessons that will live on for generations.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and a grandson. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Known for his fun-loving nature and ever-present button-up shirt, Larry had a way of making people feel welcome wherever he went. He was deeply loved by many and will be remembered for the warmth he brought into every room.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey. A private family service will be held prior to the Celebration of Life which will be held on July 12, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM at VFW 318 4th Ave, Rochelle, IL.
