CRESTON — Lawrence E. Cox, 82, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois with his family by his side. Larry was born on May 5, 1942, the son of Clarence W. and Ethline (Colburn) Cox in Wynne, Arkansas. On June 24, 1960, he married Phyllis A. Bee in Creston, IL. Prior to retirement, he worked for the First National Bank of Omaha in the maintenance department. He also worked for Swift and Co. and Spaulding before working at the bank.
Larry loved spending time with his family, trapshooting, and hunting with his son, Jeff. He enjoyed racing stock cars and raising and training German Short-haired Pointers. During the last year, his favorite things to do were going on rides, watching people fish at Lake Sule and at the Oregon dam and watching the skydivers.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his sisters: Juanita Starnes and Helen Durham; his brother, Erval Colburn and his grandson, Trevor Cox.
Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis of Creston; three children: Jeff (Dana) Cox of Chana, IL, Debi (Brett) Carlson of Chana, IL and Mary Ann (Jim) Burton of Kings, IL; ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
