BROWNSTOWN — Leslie Allen Hipsher, better known as “Les”, 76, of Brownstown, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 21, 2024 at the First Christian Church, Brownstown, where Les was a member, with Pastor Nathan Brands officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 AM, Friday at the church. Per Les’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Fund or the First Christian Church of Brownstown. Online condolences can be expressed at www.hohltandfilefh.com
Leslie Allen Hipsher was born on August 28, 1947, in Vandalia, the son of William Elbert “Shorty” and Marie Evelyn (Largent) Hipsher. Les graduated from Brownstown High School, Class of 1966. He married Daisy June Ludens on April 22, 1972; together they celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage and raised three children before her passing on January 25, 2022.
Les was a farmer and carpenter most of his life; he took a winter gig with Miller Bros Construction that turned into a full-time job for 15 years until his health forced him to retire. Les also raised quail, kept a large garden, enjoyed the outdoors and tinkering on lawnmowers and small engines. He was an avid fisherman, deer and mushroom hunter, and had an unmatched sense of humor, even in his final days.
He loved to make homemade ice-cream for cookouts down at the family pond; his family truly meant the world to him. Les was dependable, he was there when you needed him most, and was always willing to help his family and friends.
Mr. Hipsher is survived by his children, daughter, Kristi Utley; son, Jason Hipsher and wife Kelly; daughter, Tiffany Hipsher all of Brownstown; brothers, Ronnie Hipsher and wife Jeannie of New Berlin, IL, Robert Hipsher and wife Sandy of Creve Coeur, IL, George Hipsher and wife Beverly of Vandalia, David Hipsher and wife Vicki of Brownstown; sister, Judy Palecek of Brownstown; nine grandchildren, Amber Santmyer, Nathaniel Utley, Matthew Utley, Blake Hipsher, Dathan Hipsher, Landon Hipsher, Cameron Kirby, Sophia Kirby, and Meadow Kirby; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Daisy Hipsher; in-laws, Matthew and Mae Ludens; son-in-law, David Utley; brother, Alvin Hipsher and wife Marie; sister, Wilma and husband Harmon Kelly; and brother-in-law, Dan Palecek
