Letter: Thanks for Celebrating the Season at A Holiday Tea

ROCHELLE — The Flagg Township Museum held “A Holiday Tea” on December 17 at the Lincoln Arts Center. The museum would like to take this opportunity to thank Kimberly Ekes from the Vince Carney Community Theatre for her help with the event and to thank everyone who attended this first-ever Holiday Tea. The idea for the tea developed from a long-time holiday event held at the Lindenwood Union Church, developed and carried out for many years by Lindenwood resident Christy Hawkins. For the museum event, seven Table Hostesses volunteered to set a table for eight with a holiday theme, holiday tableware and a small table favor for the guests seated at their table. In addition, each provided a dessert. Thanks to Table Hostesses Mary Erdman, Joanna Patrick, Wendy Schmitt, Sally Sawicki, Janet Stewart and the staff of the Flagg Township Museum the room sparkled and the desserts were very special. A program booklet was compiled that contained a bit of holiday history trivia as well as each hostess’s recipe – a bonus for anyone looking for a great idea for a special holiday dessert. Extra program booklets will be available at the museum through January.

Thanks also to raffle and silent auction donors who provided holiday dishes, holiday decorations and treasures and other items for celebrating the season. Our congratulations to the winners of these donated gifts. The evening included songs selected for the season and sung by Dean Wren, accompanied by Ron Barshinger which added to the festivities. The museum is already considering 2025 with plans to repeat the event, a way to Celebrate the Season - A Holiday Tea.

The mission of the Flagg Township Historical Society and Museum is to stimulate interest in Flagg Township history through education, research, collection and preservation of information for the benefit of the public of today and in the future.
