Rochelle Township High School hosted the IHSA Speech Regional Saturday and Karma Lidren emerged as regional champion for her humorous interpretation performance. As a team, the Hubs were third behind DeKalb and Yorkville.

Lidren is regional champion for RTHS Speech

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Township High School hosted the IHSA Speech Regional Saturday and Karma Lidren emerged as regional champion for her humorous interpretation performance. As a team, the Hubs were third behind DeKalb and Yorkville.

Besides Lidren, others who will move on to sectional competition are: Paul Swartz/

Mikayla Preston who took ​second in​​​ dramatic duet acting; Swartz and Bella Nauman, second in humorous duet acting; Jaela Ludwick​​ second in​​​ oratorical declamation as well as ​informative speaking.   

Earning third place finishes were Jenn Heinrich​​ in ​​​special occasion speaking, Layla Pelan ​​for ​​oratory and Mikayla Preston​ in ​​​dramatic interpretation. Earning fourth places were Julia Livingston​ in​​​ extemporaneous speaking, Aiden Ramsey in ​​​impromptu speaking and in ​​​radio speaking and Lidren​​ for her ​​​original comedy.

Finalists not advancing included: Ranboo Hull, ​​fifth place​​​ poetry reading and Layla Pelan, ​​sixth place for ​​prose reading.

The Performance in the Round cast also advanced to the sectional competition having finished second at regionals. Cast members are: Ashes Glover, Jessica Nguyen, Sierra Ramos, Dani Ward and Khalil Winston.

Speaker of the week was Nauman.
