GREENVILLE, N.C. — Lorena “Rena” Hosbach Zack, 91, of Greenville, North Carolina, passed peacefully in her beloved home at Cypress Glen Retirement Community on Sunday, February 2, surrounded by her loving family.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 8 at  2:00 pm at Cypress Glen Retirement Community, 100 Hickory Street, Greenville.

Rena was born on October 6,1933 in Englewood, New Jersey to Elvin Charles Hosbach and Kathryn Christine Hosbach (Peterson).  She graduated from Brokaw School of Nursing at Illinois Wesleyan in Normal, Illinois. Her compassion for others was evident in her 35 year career as a Registered Nurse in Rochelle, Illinois.

First and foremost Rena wanted to be remembered for her role as a mother and grandmother, and she will be honored for the impact she had on many generations.  A lover of travel, she  adventured to Russia, Japan, Egypt, Greece, and Mexico but was also known to camp and road trip across the United States.

Music was an enormous part of Rena’s life and she was an accomplished pianist, choir singer, and bell ringer.  She loved attending East Carolina University School of Music performances and her grandsons’ orchestra concerts.  A lifelong volunteer, Rena was involved with Boy Scouts, hospital auxiliaries, and food pantries.  In addition, Rena was a devout member of the Methodist Church wherever she lived.

Rena had an incredible love for her family and cherished the annual Thanksgiving reunions in Emerald Isle, NC that began in 1995.  The devotion she had to her lifelong friends and all of their playful antics was inspirational and memorable.

Rena was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Russell William “Bill” Zack, former husband Kenody Charlton, brother Richard Hosbach, and son James “Jim” David Charlton.

She is survived by her son, Jeff Charlton (Sheryl); daughter Christine Fogarty; daughter-in-law Linda Charlton; stepsons Greg Zack (Margie) and Jace Zack (Debbie); stepdaughter Caroline Zack as well as grandchildren Aubrey Charlton, Andrew Charlton, and Alyce Bland (Kevin), Conor Fogarty and Luke Fogarty; Matt LaFary (Tessa) and Kevin LaFary (Micah); and great grandchildren Bryce Charlton, Stella Charlton, Samuel Charlton, Callie Bland, Brianna Bland, Harley Bland, Gracie Bland, and Joey Bland.
