ROCHELLE — Melvin Leroy Swartz, Jr., 86, formerly of Rochelle, Illinois passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025. Upon graduation from High School, he joined the US Army and received an Honorable Discharge for his Service. He would then go on to retire after a long career as a mechanic with Del Monte.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Leroy Sr. and Jennie (Helfrich)

Swartz, his beloved granddaughter Tiffany, stepson Phillip Perez, and grandson Phillip Ranken. He is survived by his wife Gloria Swartz, brother Robert Swartz of Rock Falls, sister Arletta Sharp of Lost Nation, daughter Susan Bodmer of Oglesby, IL, daughter Sherry (James) Burhenn of Rochelle, IL, son Steve Swartz of Amboy, IL, stepdaughters Jesse Perez (Kenny) of Fulton, IL, Diane (Mark) Ranken of Dixon, IL, Beatrice (Chad) Calhoun of Mount Pulaski, IL, and Lisa (Ray Dean) Treuthart of Lincoln, IL, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Melvin truly enjoyed his retirement years in sunny Florida driving around on his golf cart, visiting with friends and family. He always enjoyed fishing whenever he could get the chance. He will be so missed by all those who knew him and loved him as he was such a soft-spoken wonderful man.
