ROCHELLE — The Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District approved an important proposal to take another step forward in its plan to build a $14 million community center at Helms South during the monthly board of commissioners meeting at Rochelle City Hall on Monday.
Ringland-Johnson Construction sent two members of its team to City Hall including Greg Kladar, vice president for pre-construction, and Scott Mutton, vice president for design and technology. The two formally proposed roughly 68 percent of the costs for the $14 million community center project, with the proposal covering plumbing, heating, electrical work, concrete work, pool work and more. Pool work will likely begin in the spring.
“We want to keep the project moving,” Kladar said. “The proposal represents about 68 percent of the project, and the number we’re currently at is slightly below what we budgeted, so we’re ahead by about $100,000. I think this proposal will continue pointing us in the right direction, and by moving now, we have an opportunity to get steel and concrete in the ground before it gets cold during the winter.”
Kladar said the project is still on schedule to be completed by Labor Day 2020. Kladar also said the main fieldhouse and some of the structural work will be finished around Dec. 1. The approved proposal detailed roughly $9.5 million of the total project costs. Kladar said he’s confident the project will continue to remain under budget moving forward.
