OREGON – Beginning Jan. 1, companion cats over the age of 4 months in Illinois are required to have a rabies vaccination.
The new law also requires each county to set fees for tags and registration of these cats.

Feral cats are exempt from the rabies requirement unless they are part of a trap, neuter and release program. According to the act, feral cat means a cat that is born in the wild or is the offspring of a feral cat and not socialized. The act considers farm cats to be feral cats.
The Ogle County Board has approved the following fees for tags and registration:
Cats one-year rabies tag for a one-year rabies vaccination with microchip – under 9 months, $7; adult spayed/neutered, $7; adult not spayed/neutered, $19. For non-microchipped cats the costs are $12, 412 and $24.
Cats three-year rabies tag for three-year rabies vaccination microchipped – adult spayed/neutered, $15; adult not spayed/neutered, $55. For non-microchipped cats the costs are $30 and $70.
