Ogle County Sheriff’s Report: Jan. 10-11, 2024

On Jan. 10 at approximately 9:20 a.m. deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident with an injury at the intersection of Mulford Road and Illinois Route 72.  After investigation, deputies learned that a black Hyundai passenger car driven by Briann Mccain-Bell, 19, of Rockford was traveling southbound on Mulford Road while approaching the Illinois Route 72 stop intersection. A black Peterbilt semi-truck tractor with a trailer of livestock, driven by Rick Phipps, 59, of Cannelton, Indiana was traveling eastbound on Illinois Route 72 approaching the Mulford Road intersection. The Hyundai then traveled through the intersection southbound without coming to a stop at the stop sign. The Peterbilt semi was unable to avoid the Hyundai and struck the front passenger side of the vehicle. The Peterbilt semi then traveled off of the south side of the roadway before striking a telephone pole and breaking it in half before coming to rest. The Peterbilt sustained heavy front-end damage and the Hyundai sustained heavy front-end damage. Mccain-Bell was transported to St. Anthony's Medical center for minor injuries by Stillman Valley EMS/Fire. Mccain-Bell was later issued citations for failure to yield at a stop intersection and too fast for conditions. Monroe Center EMS/Fire and COMED also assisted with the accident.

On Jan. 10 at approximately 1:01 p.m. deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Illinois Route 72 and Kilbuck Road. After investigation deputies issued Kimberly Berlin, 35, of Davis Junction, a notice to appear for no valid driver's license with a future court date. Berlin was additionally issued a citation for an expired registration.

On Jan. 11 at approximately 6:30 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident with injuries in the 1,000 block of South Illinois Route 251. After arrival, deputies learned that a grey Ford Edge, driven by Kimberly Baslerwalton, 42, of Oregon, was traveling southbound in the 1,000 block of South Illinois Route 251 on the snow-covered road. At the same time, a white Buick passenger car, driven by Aisha Maliyabwana, 37, of Bowling Green, Kentucky, was traveling northbound in the 1,000 block of South Illinois Route 251. The Buick then lost control in the roadway before traveling into the southbound lane and striking the Ford head-on. The Buick came to rest completely in the southbound lane, and the Ford came to rest partially in the southbound lane and off of the west shoulder of the roadway. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage. Baslerwalton was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries by Rochelle EMS. Maliyabwana was transported to OSF Hospital for life-threatening injuries by Rochelle EMS. The accident remains under investigation.  

On Jan. 11 at approximately 6:40 p.m. deputies with the assistance of Oregon Fire/EMS responded to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Illinois Route 64 and Chana Road. After conducting an investigation, it was discovered a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Coral Rasmussen, 18, of Forreston, was northbound on Chana Road at the intersection with Illinois Route 64 when she pulled out in front of a Kia Soul driven eastbound by Nikolai Kowalchuk, 24, of Willowbrook. The Chevrolet Cruze and the Kia Soul collided sending the Kia into the westbound lane where it struck a Ford Escape driven by Jacob Farbo, 26, of Chana. Kowalchuk was transported to Rochelle Community Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  All other parties were treated by EMS on scene and did not seek further treatment.  Rasmussen was issued a citation for failure to obey stop sign with a notice to appear in court.

All individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty.
