DIXON — Five Ogle County 4-H local youth competed in the Northwest Regional Competition for Illinois 4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology earlier this month and were rewarded for their efforts. This event was held at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon.
The 4-H Horse Bowl and Hippology provides an opportunity for youth enrolled in 4-H horse projects to demonstrate their knowledge of equine-related subject matter in a competitive setting. These contests provide an educational experience for both participants and spectators. Youths work as a team to answer questions and compete against other teams in the same class. They also work individually to answer questions. Some 4-H’ers also complete a written exam based on their knowledge.
The Ogle County 4-H Junior Horse Bowl team placed first out of nine teams and will compete at the Illinois State 4-H Horse Bowl contest next month. The Junior team members are Adalyn Bocker, Kenzie Hongsermeier, Lily Hongsermeier, and Stella Lombardozzi. Addison Diehl is also a team member but wasn’t at the Regional competition. In Junior Individual points, Adalyn ranked second, Lily ranked fifth, and Kenzie was eighth.
Addison Yordy competed for her first year in the Senior Horse Bowl division and was placed on the Bureau County team. She scored fourth place overall for Senior Individual points. She also placed first in the Intermediate Horse Judging portion.
In Hippology, Kenzie Hongsermeier placed fifth in the Junior division. Addison Yordy placed second, and Adalyn Bocker placed third in the Intermediate division. Adalyn also placed third overall in the Intermediate Oral Questions. In April, all three girls will compete at the Illinois State 4-H Hippology contest.
Congratulations to all, and good luck with the state contests.
