Parade planned to salute local healthcare workers

Rochelle — The City of Rochelle and Mayor John Bearrows are making plans for a community parade to show support and thanks to local Rochelle Community Hospital, staff and healthcare professionals on Tuesday, May 12 at 2 p.m.

Annually, the month of May will be Rochelle Community Hospital and Healthcare workers month. The entire community is welcome to attend.

“A parade is a great way to invite everyone out to show their appreciation and support,” said Mayor Bearrows. “We hope to have a great turnout.”

Parades have been utilized in a number of ways since the stay-at-home orders have been in place including for birthday celebrations and graduations as residents look for creative ways to celebrate special occasions while practicing social distance.

“This community has a whole lot of pride,” said Bearrows. “We support each other when times are difficult.”

The parade lineup will take place at Rochelle Middle School on School Avenue at 1:30 p.m. Watch for the orange cones for check-in. Mayor Bearrows and the Rochelle police and fire departments will lead the way down School Avenue to Second Street and circle the hospital. All are welcome and encouraged to attend, decorate vehicles, honk the horn and have fun.
