ROCHELLE — At its monthly meeting Monday, the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District Board of Commissioners saw the swearing in of recently re-elected Commissioners Dale Wells and BT Carmichael. Board President Tim Hayden was not present at the meeting and will be sworn in privately at a later date.

The board also voted unanimously to keep its officer structure as is, including Hayden as board president, John Dobbs as vice president, Wells as treasurer, Carmichael as secretary, Jodie Hart as assistant treasurer and Joe Lenkaitis as assistant secretary. Committee slots will also be filled in the same way they previously were.

The board is still short one commissioner due to the recent resignation of Commissioner Kristi Gonzales.

Budget

The board discussed its fiscal year 2025-2026 budget and Executive Director Jackee Ohlinger said capital improvement plans in the budget include Atwood Park bandshell renovations, new playground installation, shaded seating at Lake Sule, replacement of the VFW Park shelter, construction of a fieldhouse at Helms North, new park entrance signage, new fitness equipment for The REC Center, and capital improvements at Fairways Golf Course.

The budget will be up for approval by the board next month.

Asphalt

The board unanimously approved a bid from Wyatt Pavement Maintenance for asphalt projects at the following locations: Atwood Park parking lot and bandshell, Powers Park parking lot and west side entrance, Tilton Park (Teen Town) parking lot, Little League parking lot, Lake Sule parking lot, and The REC Center north and south parking lot along with the east fire lane. Wyatt Pavement Maintenance was one of two bids the park district received.

Special use

The board unanimously approved a special use permit for 4-C (Community Coordinated Child Care) to hold an Outdoor Family Fun Event at Cooper Park on June 17 from 4-6 p.m. Local organizations will have booths at the event that will also include face painting, bubbles, chalk, crafts and more.
