Party versus country

Upon leaving office, George Washington said that a political party “serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection.” The far-left party (Democrat Party) appears to be bringing George Washington’s predictions to fruition. Examples in recent years include the destruction of private property (burning buildings in cities), attacks against political opponents (shooting of Congressmen Scalise and Mika in 2017), and statements by minority party leader Hakeem Jeffries who called on his supporters to fight the current president’s agenda “in the streets.” These events seem to confirm the prediction that a political party “foments occasionally riot and insurrection.”

On April 27, 2025, Governor Pritzker spoke at a New Hampshire Democrat Party fundraising event calling for “mass protests, mobilization, and disruption” against Republicans to protest the current administration. “These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace,” he said in the speech. “They must understand that we will fight their cruelty with every megaphone and microphone that we have. We must castigate them on the soap box and then punish them at the ballot box.” (Chicago Tribune) In October 2024, the former president referred to Republicans as “garbage.” (New York Times) These statements appear to confirm the prediction that a party operative “kindles the animosity of one part against another.”

Fearful statements about climate change have been rampant by the left. A recent book entitled “False Alarm: How Climate Change Panic Costs Us Trillions, Hurts the Poor, and Fails to Fix the Planet” by Bjorn Lomborg (noted environmentalist) illustrates the over-hype of leftists claiming that the world will end next week because of climate change if you don’t do what they want. The recent fires in California were blamed on climate change, when in fact, the fires were the result of poor forest management, a lack of water availability for extinguishing fires (poor water management), failure to plan for drought conditions, which occur periodically over the years, and possible initiation by humans. Statements on climate change seem to reflect George Washington’s prediction regarding “false alarms.”

George Washington also wrote, “The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism.” His past writings have often been proven to be true. The Democrats lost power because, despite help from the mainstream media, their message was not consistent with the desires of the American people. Pushing gender dysphoria, homosexuality, men in women’s sports, the prevention of criminal illegal aliens from deportation, indifference to public safety by not condemning violence, antisemitism, and encouraging illegal immigration all played a role in their loss of power. They struggle to present a leader with a coherent message that the American people will understand - one that is not governed by Trump Derangement Syndrome. What contributes to George Washington’s prophetic statements is his understanding of human nature, which has not changed.
