ROCHELLE — On May 8, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for Mindful Matters Therapy at 516 4th Ave. in Rochelle.
The business is owned by Loni Nolte, who is a licensed clinical social worker. Mindful Matters Therapy offers compassionate support and evidence-based treatments to help individuals navigate life’s challenges. In-person and/or telehealth appointments are available for both privacy and ease or practicality in a busy life.
Nolte grew up in Paw Paw and received her master’s degree in social work from Aurora University. Both of her parents own their own businesses in Paw Paw, and she never saw her career transpiring that way, until she changed course.
“I wanted to help people,” Nolte said. “I really hope to make a difference with people. I hope to have more conversations with people here and in the community. I try to make everyone feel like they're a friend when they come through my door. I think life is hard and if you live it, you get bumps and bruises. In the mental health game, that can look like anxiety and depression. When those things go untreated, they become worse and can be really hard. When you find tools, support and a safe place to work through them, they become part of your story and what makes you tough and what makes you survive.”
The ribbon cutting event was attended by members of the community and hosted by the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce and the City of Rochelle. Speakers included Chamber Executive Director Tricia Herrera and Mayor John Bearrows.
Herrera thanked Nolte for choosing to locate her business in Rochelle.
“We chose to do this in May because it's Mental Health Awareness Month,” Herrera said. “We want to celebrate that with you and recognize that. We just want to thank you for being a part of our community and our downtown. We always like to celebrate with new businesses and having someone that is already so involved and such a part of our community is very exciting for us. Welcome to Rochelle.”
Bearrows spoke about the importance of mental health resources in the community and said having Mindful Matters Therapy in Rochelle will help people in the city to overcome hurdles.
“It's an extremely big problem,” Bearrows said. “It's the hardest thing to get help for someone that there ever is. You can have cancer or any other health issue and get help. Mental health is tough. This is near and dear to my heart. I know she's going to do great things for many people in our community. We've talked about how we have a mental health ambulance call and they transfer them and two hours later they're back on the street because nobody wants to help. I'm very excited to have you in this town to help those that are less fortunate and need the help.”
