ROCHELLE — On Tuesday, Jan. 14, a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony were held for the newly-branded BP gas station at 1180 N. 7th St. in Rochelle. The location was previously a Clark station.
Recent months have seen the location on the north side of Rochelle transform with new signage, siding and branding. The Jan. 14 event was led by Rochelle Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Tricia Herrera and attended by members of Rochelle’s business community.
“We want to welcome everyone here today to this celebration,” Herrera said. “We've been talking about this for a couple of months. When you guys started making the transition to BP and all the new signage came up, people started noticing it and how great it looked. Thank you very much. We're very excited to have you and your investment in the community. We always say at the chamber that when you open a business, you can open a business anywhere. And we're always very happy when people choose our community to do that. Thank you for your investment and the redesign and getting everything put together.”
Mayor John Bearrows attended and spoke at the event on behalf of the City of Rochelle.
“Thank you for what you've done,” Bearrows said. “We talk about the businesses, but we also talk about our work since the pandemic. We all pulled together to get through that. It's been great in the time since to see our businesses improve and make improvements like today's. We just want to thank you for being here and thank you for all you've done.”
The final speaker at the grand opening event was Umesh Patel, the owner of the business, who was surrounded by family.
“Good afternoon,” Patel said. “This is a special day as we invite guests to join us and become part of BP. For the past six years, this has been a journey of hard work. We've had amazing support from the community. Thanks to the Rochelle neighborhood and community for their amazing support. As we go into the future, we're all together. Thank you.”
