Rochelle Child Care Center merges with the Kishwaukee Family YMCA

Posted

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Child Care Center has merged with the Kishwaukee Family YMCA, effective Dec. 9. The official merger culminates a process that started in June 2018 with the strategic plan of diving into one of YMCA’s core competencies of providing childcare and serving more people.

“The Kishwaukee Family YMCA provides numerous childcare programs that serve working families in DeKalb and Kane County. Reaching out to expand these childcare services to Rochelle and Ogle County was a natural next step for our organization,” stated Mark Spiegelhoff, CEO at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA.

Over the last year and a half, the YMCA and Rochelle Child Care Center have been in discussions and have decided to move forward with a partnership that would strengthen the childcare services in Rochelle and Ogle County.

The Rochelle Child Care Center is the only licensed, center based childcare center in the City of Rochelle. The center has an average daily attendance of 68 individual children with full-day care and before/after school care. A day camp program for school age children is also available in the summer months. The licensed capacity of the center is 133 children.

Following the merger some of the initial changes coming to the Rochelle Child Care Center will be internal cosmetic facility improvements, new payment processes allowing parents to pay using technology, increased staff benefits and the opportunity for children and families to get involved with the broader opportunities through the YMCA whether that is by volunteering, donating or becoming a member.

“We are very excited to have the YMCA brand and its mission brought to our childcare center and the Rochelle community. With the YMCA being the largest provider of childcare in the nation, we couldn’t have selected a better partner to move the progress of the center forward for generations to come,” announced Rev. Rob Hamilton, Rochelle Child Care Center Board President.

The Rochelle Child Care Center will also be changing its name to the YMCA Child Care Center.

The merger will allow for many future enhancements to be made to the facility and the service offered at the childcare center. Many of these improvements will be rolled out over the next several months.

“The YMCA was also blessed with a generous benefactor that provided $50,000 in seed funding to move the merger forward and make initial improvements at the center. I am so grateful to this individual that saw our vision and was there with the financial support to see it through,” explained Spiegelhoff.

While the merger will take some time for everything to get set up and put into place, the YMCA and Rochelle Child Care Center believe that this will be a very good decision in the long run.

“We are excited about this opportunity moving forward to reach out and serve the Rochelle community,” added Spiegelhoff. “It is going to take a little time to build up to where we have some momentum and strong relationships, but I think long term, Rochelle is going to see some great things happen for the community.”
