Rochelle's Jr. Tackle sixth-grade team topples Winnebago

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Jr. Tackle sixth-grade team rolled over Winnebago 30-0 this past Satruday at home, while Rochelle’s other three teams all won by forfeit.
A seventh-grade exhibition game was still held, but Rochelle was declared the winner by forfeit before the contest because Winnebago had to play some eighth-grade players to field a team.
Rochelle wasted little time in posting a vicrtory in the sixth-grade game.
Tony Milburn scored on a 42-yard touchdown run, while Julian Acevedo had a 1-yard TD and Colton Manning also scored a touchdown from one yard out.
Rochelle’s Wyatt Worthington intercepted a pass during game and returned it 46 yards for a defensive score.
Seventh grade shootout
The Rochelle seventh-grade team played Winnebago seventh and eighth-graders and came away with an exciting see-saw 38-34 victory.
Rochelle took an early 6-0 first-quarter lead on an 8-yard rushing touchdown by Carson Lewis.
Winnebago came right back with a 74-yard TD run and on the visitor’s second play from scrimmage to tie up the game 6-6.
Late in the first quarter, a Winnebago runner broke away again for a 76-yard TD run to take a 12-6 lead.
Rochelle got back in front 14-12 in the second quarter when Grant Gensler ran for a 5-yard TD and Ryan Senne added a two-point conversion.
Winnebago answered with a 5-yard TD run of its own with a successful two-point conversion to regain the lead 20-14.
Rochelle’s Mason Moore broke free on a 50-yard run that set up a 5-yard TD scamper by Donovan Burrow two plays later. The two-point conversion was good on a pass from Lewis to Burrow to put Rochelle back in front 22-20.
However, Winnebago recovered a Rochelle fumble late in the second quarter and on the next play ran the ball 47 yards for a score to take a 26-22 lead into halftime.
In the third quaeter, Villalobos scored a TD on a 9-yard run and Ethan Goodwin ran in a two-point conversion to put Rochelle back in front 30-26.
Winnebago regained the 34-30 lead in the fourth quarter on a long 89-yard touchdown run and successful two-point conversion.
Rochelle wouldn’t be denied though, as Gensler raced away for a 38-yard TD run followed by a two-point conversion run by Brandyn Metzger that gave the hosts the lead for good at 38-34
