RTHS speech places 5th at DeKalb Corn Classic

DEKALB — On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Rochelle Township High School speech team took fifth place at the very competitive DeKalb Corn Classic. Individuals who earned finalist honors included:

Varsity division: Lucas Smardo, fourth place, Radio Speaking. Z Brizuela, fifth place, Poetry Reading. Z Brizuela, sixth place, Oratory.

Next in division: Z Brizuela, first place, Informative Speaking. Khalil Winston, second place, Original Comedy. Derek Swartz/Aletheia Venuso, second place, Dramatic Duet Acting. Emma Kennay, third place, Oratorical Declamation. Derek Swartz, third place         , Humorous Interpretation. Bobbi Henning, fourth place, Original Comedy. Sophia Losoya, fourth place, Prose Reading. Lydia Von Haden, seventh place, Dramatic Interpretation.

Novice division: Mercy Hunley, first place, Radio Speaking. Emma Kennay, third place, Special Occasion Speaking. Rafaela Canaan, fourth place, Special Occasion Speaking. Paola Guijosa, fifth place, Original Comedy. Sophia Stein/Mackenzie Taylor, sixth place, Humorous Duet Acting. Kara Hull, sixth place, Humorous Interpretation. Delilah Vaveroutsos, sixth place, Poetry Reading.

Speaker of the week is Sophia Losoya.  The team hosts the RTHS Invitational for their next competition on Dec. 14.
