School enrollment down

ROCHELLE — Rochelle Township High School Board members were given current and project enrollment numbers from Superintendent Jason Harper Monday night, getting a look at projections for next year’s enrollment.
“Currently, we have 874 students enrolled in grades nine through 12,” Harper said. “We expect to see upward of 920 next year based on projections from our school and the feeder schools.”
This year’s enrollment numbers have declined by approximately 30 at RTHS compared to a year ago. Based on projection numbers from the local elementary district and the surrounding feeder schools, numbers could be as high as 940 students within the next two years.

“Increases and decreases from year to year are typical for school districts and are in line with our project trends. It is not uncommon for there to be differences between classes,” Harper commented.

Board members accepted the resignations of assistant speech coach Terry Dickow and and assistant wrestling coach Jason Fore as well as approving a family leave request for Lindsey Suess for the spring semester. Riley Lodico was also approved as a volunteer assistant basketball coach.
The next RTHS board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18 in the RTHS Board of Education Conference Room.
