BELVIDERE — Scott Allen MacTaggart, 61, passed away peacefully Oct. 29 at Park Place of Belvidere.
Scott was born on Feb. 22, 1960 to Clarence and Jean (Ohl) MacTaggart in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1978. He served his country for six years, from 1978-1984, in the US Army and spent almost two years stationed in Germany. He was a motor transport operator where he operated wheeled vehicles over all types of terrain to safely transport cargo and troops.
In Aug. 2020, Scott was diagnosed with cancer that had metastasized to the brain. He had a passion for cars, specifically his 1970 Opel GT which he continuously repaired and had a vast collection of model cars. Scott entered and received first place in the 2001 Lincoln Highway Heritage Festival Car Show in Rochelle with his 1970 Opel GT.
He was a loving and supportive father to his daughters’ endeavors attending choir and band concerts, tennis matches, and dance competitions.
Scott is survived by his father, Clarence Edward and four daughters: Melissa Ann of Sterling; Shannon Lee (Fanio) Belmonte of Rochelle; Sarah Lynn of Urbana and Ashley Nicole of Sycamore; four brothers: David Clarence (Connie) of Libertyville, Illinois; Chris Willoughby (Barb) of Glen Ellyn; James Edward of Rockford and Thomas Paul (Julie) of Colorado Springs, Colorado and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and mother, Jean Ann.
Scott’s cremains will be entered in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix at a later date. Memorials to American Cancer Society. Cremation care provided by Stateline Cremations.
