ROCHELLE— A skydiver had to be airlifted to a hospital in Rockford after reportedly landing on the pavement of Illinois Route 251 Monday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m.
According to Rochelle Fire Chief Dave Sawlsville, witnesses reported that the skydiver, who was not a local resident, was descending from the east when he crossed over the highway and clipped a power line prior to landing.
When emergency personnel arrived on scene, there were no burn marks on the subject’s face or body and no damage to the power lines. He was wearing a helmet at the time, but suffered injuries to his head and face. He was later airlifted to a Rockford hospital for further treatment.
“He had some facial trauma, he complained of pain all over, but the most of it was head and face,” Sawlsville explained.
