Smardo named Steward Outstanding Citizen

STEWARD — The Village of Steward announced its 2021 Outstanding Citizen at a brief ceremony at Wesley Steward Memorial Park on July 30.  Each year since 2014, Steward has awarded status as Outstanding Citizen to a youth in our area who has demonstrated willingness to share time and ability/talent without other benefit.

An engraved brick is placed in celebration garden in their honor, and a gift card is given.

This year’s recipient is Lucas Smardo!  He was presented with his brick by Village President Hugh McKiski.

Lucas has willingly shared his singing talent.  Most recently, he sang a song for Steward’s Arbor Day Celebration when a tree was planted in the park in memory of Emmett Barnes.  The song Lucas sang was composed by Mr. Barnes and Pauline Barnes Cultra.

Lucas also sang at eighth grade graduation and has sung solos in Steward’s local church throughout his life. Lucas sets a fine example of youth contributing to the community.
