DEKALB — The Rochelle varsity softball team faced DeKalb on the road this past Friday, falling by a score of 8-4 to drop to 2-8 overall.
The Barbs led 1-0 after one single and an error by the Lady Hubs in the bottom of the third inning. DeKalb took a 3-0 lead with two singles and one double in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Macy Luxton singled and score on Abby Reish’s RBI double in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 3-1 game.
Bella Lodico notched an RBI single soon after to cut the DeKalb lead to 3-2, but the Barbs responded with five runs on four singles, one triple and one walk in the bottom frame to remain ahead 8-2.
“We were happy with the contact we made and the fact we kept scoring during the game,” Suess said. “We just have to be able to shut the other team down and not allow big innings.”
Senior Mandi Lamb walked and scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh inning, and Luxton scored on a wild pitch after her second single of the game.
