ROCHELLE — Despite recording five hits including three in the first inning on Thursday, the Rochelle varsity softball team was unable to score against the Geneseo Maple Leafs.
Geneseo took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and the Maple Leafs added four runs in both the third and fourth innings to shut out Rochelle by a final score of 10-0 in five innings. Geneseo capitalized on two hits and a HBP to score twice in the first inning.
Rochelle began the bottom of the first inning with three straight singles from junior Hannah Luxton and seniors Mandi Lamb and Becca Bunger. But a line drive to second base by senior Macy Luxton turned into an inning-ending double play for the Maple Leafs.
Geneseo led 6-0 after three singles, one double and one home run to right field in the top of the third inning. The Maple Leafs added three singles, one sacrifice fly and one HBP while taking advantage of one Rochelle error to add four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Bunger singled for the Lady Hubs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and sophomore Bella Lodico added a single to third base in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Friday
The Lady Hubs faced Harvard on the road Friday afternoon, falling to the Hornets by a score of 13-5. Bella Lodico and Jordin Dickey each totaled two hits in the loss, while five girls including Becca Bunger, Abby Reish, Hannah Luxton, Macy Luxton and Maddi O'Rorke recorded one hit. Lodico and Ally Reish combined for six strikeouts on the mound.
Saturday
Rochelle fell twice during its triangular meet with Sterling and Hononegah on Saturday. The Lady Hubs lost both games by respective scores of 16-0.
