LASALLE — Senior Lauren Dyer earned her 150th career strikeout with the Rochelle Lady Hubs during the team’s Interstate 8 varsity softball game against LaSalle-Peru on Monday.

Dyer threw five innings and struck out eight batters for the Lady Hubs, who remained within striking distance until the Cavaliers rallied for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand Rochelle a 10-0 shutout loss. Sophomore Camryn Metzger recorded the first and only hit for the Lady Hubs (6-18, 0-9 Interstate 8), reaching on a single in the top of the fourth inning. Rochelle will travel north for a nonconference matchup against Forreston at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

LaSalle-Peru led 2-0 after the bottom of the first inning, where Taylor Vescogni slapped an RBI groundout to freshman shortstop Mya Martinez before Makenzie Chamberlain drove a line drive RBI single into right field during the next at-bat. Dyer struck out the side in the bottom of the second inning and retired the Cavalier offense in order during both the third and fourth innings, but the Lady Hub offense was unable to capitalize on Metzger’s single in the top of the fourth.

LaSalle-Peru (26-3, 9-0 Interstate 8) broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs on an RBI double from Grace Pecchio and an RBI single from Callie Mertes. The Cavaliers carried a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, where three Rochelle errors and a pair of walks allowed LaSalle-Peru to tack on six runs and clinch the victory via run rule.
