Special guests read across Lincoln

ROCHELLE – Students at Lincoln Elementary School were treated to a day of reading Dr. Seuss books with members of the community on Tuesday.
In honor of Read Across America Day, Lincoln Elementary School hosted its 3rd Annual Dr. Seuss Reading Day. For the event, members of the community came to the school to read Dr. Seuss books to students from all grade levels.
The readers are contacted by Brandi Casey, reading specialist at Lincoln Elementary, and are usually very excited to come out and read to the kids. The main goal of the reading day is to show the kids that reading can be fun.

“We really want to inspire the kids to read more and to read for fun,” said Casey.
The event was created by a former Lincoln Elementary teacher who did this at her previous school and it was a hit with the kids. Everyone involved in the event, including the staff and readers, has a fun time with the event. While the kids enjoy listening to the books, their favorite part is meeting the Cat in the Hat.
“The kids love it every year and their favorite part by far is when the Cat in the Hat makes a guest appearance,” said Casey.
