Time to take a dip

ROCHELLE – June has begun, schools are out for summer and the weather is beginning to warm up. That means it is time to take the family down to the pool and sign the kids up for one of the summer programs offered by Spring Lake Pool.
The pool had been closed last Saturday through Wednesday to repair a broken pump, but is now back up and running. Since opening for the season, programs such as the swim team have seen lots of interest from the community.
“We have started the swim team this year and we have 116 kids on the Rochelle Rays,” said Marianne Swanson, aquatics director.
The swim team consists of two separate age groups, one for older swimmers ages 11-18 and another for children ages 10 and under.
In addition to open swim times for the community during the week, a variety of other pool programs are available for all ages, including swimming lessons for either groups, individuals, or people with disabilities, water exercise classes, and even a class for adults who don’t know how to swim.

“We also have our hydro hike class, which is a deep water running class,” said Swanson. “It is even safe for individuals who are non-swimmers, even though it is in deep water they wear a water belt and water boots.”
The rainy weather in the beginning of the season and the broken pump limited the number of days the pool was open for the Memorial Day weekend. But now Swanson has high hopes for the rest of the season.
“If the weather permits, I expect the rest of the season to go wonderfully. I am really looking forward to this summer,” she said.
