Hubs take second, Lady Hubs finish eighth on Saturday

The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams were both in action during the Byron Indoor Classic on Saturday, when the boys finished second out of eight schools with 94 points and the girls took eighth out of 14 schools with 30 points.

Hubs take second, Lady Hubs finish eighth on Saturday

BYRON — The Rochelle Hub and Lady Hub track and field teams were both in action during the Byron Indoor Classic on Saturday, when the boys finished second out of eight schools with 94 points and the girls took eighth out of 14 schools with 30 points. The Hubs will return to action this coming Wednesday, when the team will travel for the Gary Egler Invitational in Sycamore.

Varsity Boys

Junior Jonathan Bearrows and senior Jack Tilton brought home Rochelle’s two field event wins on Saturday. Bearrows won the long jump competition with a leap of 6.10 meters, while senior Jack Tilton won the high jump with a clearance of 1.88 meters. Juniors Wyatt Worthington and Victor O’Dell went second and fourth in the pole vault with heights of 3.13 and 2.82 meters.

Rochelle fared well in the relays, with two groups taking second and one finishing third. The Hubs ran second in the 800-meter relay (Hunter Bivins, Nathan Rosas, Caiden Redlarczyk and Mason Bolhous) with a time of 1:40.75 and the 3200-meter relay (Declan McGee, Elijah Mayen, Levi Waddle and Pedro Rosales) with a time of 9:06.66. Rochelle ran third in the 1600-meter relay (Pedro Rosales, Jackson Smith, Aaron DeClerck and Justin DeClerck) in 3:55.14.

Freshman Tyler Johnson led the Hubs in the distance events, winning the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:39.07 and taking sixth in the 1600-meter relay with a time of 4:57.91. Sophomore Hunter Bivins recorded Rochelle’s best time in the 55-meter hurdles, taking fourth with a time of 8.84 seconds. Junior Elijah Mayen finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.64.

Senior Jack Tilton and freshman Nathan Rosas led Rochelle in the sprints. Tilton finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.93 seconds and Rosas ran fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 6.92.

Varsity Girls

Sophomore Elyse Manning earned Rochelle’s lone win in the field events, taking first in the triple jump with a distance of 9.73 meters. Senior Erin Murphy spearheaded the charge in the throws, placing second in the shot put with a heave of 10.35 meters. Senior Taelynn Rodeghero set a PR in the high jump, finishing eighth with a clearance of 1.38 meters in her second track meet.

The Lady Hubs ran three relay races during Saturday’s meet. Rochelle finished seventh in the 1600-meter relay (Kyrie Cragin, Jasmine Walsh, Elyse Manning and Gwendolyn O’Dell) with a time of 4:40.17 and eighth in the 3200-meter relay (Bridgett Ramirez, Brisa Zepeda, Arline Villanueva and Marley Cherry) with a time of 12:46.00. Rochelle landed in 11th in the 400-meter relay (Kaliyah Cathina, Reese Kissack, Dylan Etes and Zoe Malley) with a time of 2:03.11.

Underclassmen led the Lady Hubs in the distance events, where sophomore Vivian Worthington took third in the 3200-meter run with a time of 14:54.64 and freshman Carol Carpenter placed fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:03.83. Junior Kyrie Cragin ran Rochelle’s best time in the sprinting events, taking fifth in the 400-meter dash with a new PR time of 1:06.27.

Sophomore Elyse Manning and senior Alex Neece added strong finishes in the sprints, with Manning clocking in at 7.86 seconds for eighth in the 100-meter dash and Neece running a time of 29.91 seconds for 10th in the 200-meter dash.
