Two treated for burns following early morning fire

ROCHELLE – An early morning fire at Shangri-La Trailer Park resulted in two people being transported to Rochelle Community Hospital and then on to Rockford hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening burns Wednesday.
The fire occurred at 3:18 a.m. this morning at 6137 Sunflower lane located at the Shangri-La trailer park. The fire was caused by a space heater. By the time that firefighters arrived on scene the whole trailer was engulfed in flames, but the residents had already escaped the building.
“It was fully involved by the time they arrived on scene and the people had already escaped, but they were already partially burned,” said Rochelle firefighter Brian Edwards.

The fire completely destroyed the trailer, along with damaging two surrounding trailers and a car that was parked nearby.
The Rochelle Fire Department, as well as Ogle-Lee units and an ambulance from Ashton all responded to the call.
