STEWARD — Steward Elementary School hosted the 2024 Meridian Conference Volleyball Championship tournament from Oct. 8-10. The No. 1 seed Steward defeated the No. 2 seed Eswood 25-17, 25-20 on Thursday evening to take home this year's tournament championship.
The tournament tipped off on Tuesday evening, when No. 4 seed Kings defeated No. 5 seed ACS Sycamore 25-17, 25-19. Action continued with the semifinals on Wednesday evening, when Steward took down Kings 25-20, 25-11 and Eswood beat No. 3 seed Creston 25-22, 12-25, 25-12.
The Steward Eagles, who went 7-1 over eight matches in the regular season, are coached by Matt Hayes and Rebekah Hayes. The team includes Ben Hayes, Molly Kedzie, Evi O'Rorke, Jasper Macklin, Barbara Palmer, Jamie Riddell, Mayson Smardo, Lizzie Hayes, Levi Kedzie, Porter Macklin, Ellie Maertz and McKenzie Smith.
