Katie Van Hise learned how to fight for success throughout her junior and senior seasons with the Rochelle Township High School volleyball program. Her desire to win will carry over into her collegiate career next season, when Van Hise suits up for the Wisconsin-Platteville Pioneers.

Van Hise’s club program VC United announced Friday afternoon that the senior hitter has committed to the NCAA Division III Wisconsin-Platteville team and head coach Samantha Birkicht. Van Hise was named an Interstate 8 All-Conference player this season, and she led the Lady Hubs with 267 kills from the outside hitter position.

“I really fell in love with the school and it has everything I want,” Van Hise said. “I also really love coach Birkicht’s energy and drive. I’m really looking forward to bonding with my new teammates, and I’m excited to test my skills on a whole new level of play. Playing for coach [Molly] Sly and coach [Lindsay] Suess these last couple of years has prepared me for college by showing me how to fight for success. We really had to fight for success during my junior and senior years, especially this season since we were entering a new conference.”

Van Hise said she plans to study biology while attending Wisconsin-Platteville, which finished 16-14 overall this volleyball season. Van Hise played multiple positions throughout her four years in the RTHS program including outside hitter, right side and middle blocker, which she will be projected to play for the Pioneers. The Lady Hubs went 21-16 this season, setting a new RTHS single-season victories record along the way.

“UW-Platteville is getting a great athlete,” head coach Molly Sly said. “Katie is very versatile in the front row. She’s quick on the block and she can put the ball away from both the middle and the outside. Katie is a high-ceiling player and I’m excited to see her develop at the collegiate level. Katie will be missed by both the players and the coaches. She was a fun player to have on our team.”
