The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 19 individuals to the 2022 St. Charles East Battle for the Shield on Sunday. Four local wrestlers brought home first-place trophies from the tournament.

ST. CHARLES — The Rochelle Wrestling Club sent 19 individuals to the 2022 St. Charles East Battle for the Shield on Sunday. Four local wrestlers brought home first-place trophies from the tournament.

Nehemiah Andronic won the 57-58 Tots Division title with a 2-0 record. Andronic scored a pin against DeKalb’s Kennedy Erickson before beating Yorkville’s Grayson Goudzwaard by 12-0 major decision.

Xander Gonzales won the 73-82 Tots Division title with a 2-0 record. Gonzales earned the championship with consecutive fall victories against Rockford’s Alexander Beard and McHenry’s Maverick Baker.

Elliot Huff won the 53-54 Tots Division title with a 4-0 record. Huff defeated Maple Park’s Noah Caputo by 11-5 decision and Wheaton’s Clayton Jordan by 9-2 decision. Huff sealed the championship with a pin against Barrington’s Brady Sergeant and an 11-3 major decision over Harvard’s Kane Linneman.

Chase Marruffo won the 60-61 Bantam Division title with a 2-0 record. Marruffo scored an 8-1 decision against Plano’s Aiden Hernandez before downing St. Charles’ Paxton Lahman with a 9-0 major decision.

Elias Andronic took second in the 44 Tots Division bracket with a 1-1 record. Andronic outlasted Lake Zurich’s Brody Czarnecki by 6-3 decision before conceding a 4-2 decision against St. Charles’ Nikko Rigler.

Dominic Escatel took second in the 64-69 Bantam Division bracket with a 1-1 record. Escatel took down Crystal Lake’s Jack Mueller by 15-2 major decision before falling in the finals to St. Charles’ Cameron Gillie.

Gavin Smith took second in the 64-66 Bantam Division bracket with a 1-1 record. Smith defeated Crystal Lake’s Dallas Mullin with a 9-3 decision before falling against Yorkville’s Liam Sondelski in the finals.

Braxton Rosenthal took second in the 51-56 Intermediate Division bracket with a 2-1 record. Rosenthal edged Rockton’s Trenton Hulsebus by 6-3 decision and Harvard’s Cody Kitson with a 3-2 decision over the first two rounds. Rosenthal faced Oregon’s Cannon Ziller in the finals, conceding a first-period fall.

Wells Millard placed third in the 44-45 Tots Division bracket with a 1-1 record. Millard came just short in an 8-6 sudden defeat against Glen Ellyn’s Wilson Ittersagen before pinning St. Charles’ Oliver Jones.

Quade Dickey placed third in the 83-87 Bantam Division bracket with a 1-1 record. Dickey fell against Lombard’s Asher Ericson in the first round before bouncing back with a pin against Addison’s Nico Molfese.

Teddy Millard placed third in the 61-64 Intermediate Division bracket with a 2-1 record. Millard won by fall over Lake Zurich’s Thomas McMahon before falling against Yorkville’s Maddox Lawrence in the semifinals. Millard faced Sycamore’s Tyler Sullivan in the third-place bout, beating Sullivan with a 10-2 major decision.

Quentin Ansteth finished fourth in the 87-93 Intermediate Division bracket. Ansteth scored a 9-0 major decision over DeKalb’s Liam Wallin before falling to Rockford’s Tyler Bell and West Chicago’s Ricky Alfaro.

Garrett Miller finished sixth in the 113-121 Intermediate Division bracket. After a 9-2 defeat to Fox Lake’s Abby Quirk, Miller edged St. Charles’ Patrick Brennan by 8-4 decision and fell to Woodstock’s Cage Rexford.

Sam Navejas finished sixth in the 99-107 Novice Division bracket. Navejas fell to Lake Zurich’s Brock Rubicz before pinning St. Charles’ Sydney Stieb and conceding a 7-3 decision to Carpentersville’s Austin Slocum.

Tony Milburn finished sixth in the 94-101 Senior Division bracket. Milburn lost 3-2 against Wheaton’s Caden Cahill before beating Carol Stream’s Danny Risa 4-2 and conceding an 8-1 decision to St. Charles’ Liam Aye.
