ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team competed in the IWCOA Fresh-Soph Rochelle Regional on Saturday, with six individuals qualifying for the sectional including three regional champions.
Sophomore Tommy Tourdot won the 101-pound regional title with a 2-0 record. Tourdot scored back-to-back falls over Richmond-Burton’s Kyan Gunderson and Harlem’s Justin Lewis to win the tournament.
Freshman Joseph Nadig won the 113-pound regional title with a 3-0 record. Nadig held off Harlem’s Koletyn Zanoni 8-5 before pinning North Boone’s Gavin Ekberg and Stillman Valley’s Henry Hildreth for the title.
Freshman Kaiden Morris won the 220-pound regional title with a 3-0 record. Morris cruised over Stillman Valley’s Blake Mollett 18-2 before pinning Hononegah’s Isaak Smith and Stillman Valley’s Braxton Jennings.
Freshman Jack Pavlak took second in the 170-pound regional bracket. Pavlak took down Burlington Central’s Brandon Mancera 8-1 and edged Stillman Valley’s Brock Needs with a 5-3 sudden victory in overtime to win the semifinal bout. Pavlak fell against Byron’s Kyle Jones for the championship.
Sophomore Leo Stoffel finished fourth in the 170-pound bracket, scoring an 11-8 decision over Burlington Central’s Alan Perez to earn a sectional berth. Sophomore Riley Damask finished fourth in the 120-pound regional bracket, defeating Oregon’s Ethan Mowry 8-5 and pinning Durand’s Evie Anderson before conceding a 4-0 loss to Burlington Central’s Austin Lee. Damask faced Mowry again in the consolation semifinal round, winning with an 11-4 decision to earn his berth in the sectional tournament.
Other Rochelle athletes who participated in the regional include freshman 113-pounder Weylin Nay (1-2), freshman 132-pounder Santiago Pacheco (1-2) and sophomore 138-pounder Alex Burke (0-2).
