ROCHELLE — Irene Margaret Behrends passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Manor Court, Rochelle, IL.

She was born on April 28, 1943 in Peoria, IL, daughter of Henry and Minnie Behrends, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by her loving sisters, Shirley Giarritano of Rochelle, IL; Lynn Thompson of San Antonio, TX; Jane DeToye of Merrillville, IN; three nieces, Tracy (Pat)Spang, Petra (Jack)Cady and Nicole (Patrick)Serena.  Also, 3 great nieces, Brianna Spang, Hannah and Ella Cady, and three Great Nephews, Ben Spang, Henry and Hunter Serena.

Irene grew up in Bradford IL and where she graduated from Bradford High School. Irene attended Methodist College Nursing Program, Peoria, IL; Luther College, Decorah, IA; Bradley University, Peoria, IL and she worked at Methodist Hospital, Peoria, IL 37 yrs.

Irene especially enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, gardening and baking.
Irene lived near Peoria, IL, San Antonio, TX and recently Rochelle.  

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St.John Lutheran Church, 6614 W. Smithfield Rd., Bartonville, IL on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 11:00 am with Pastor Michael Jones officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 10 - 11 am prior to the service.   Cremation care has been provided by Unger-Horner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Irene’s memory to St. John Lutheran Church, Bartonville, IL, St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Wyoming, IL or an organization of your choice.
