CRESTON — Berdean L. “Pete” Moland, 88, formerly of Creston, died on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 Prairie Crossings Nursing Home in Shabbona. Pete was born on Nov. 11, 1930 to Albert L. and Myrtle J. (Govig) Moland in DeKalb County. 
He proudly served with the United States Army, Company H, 109th Infantry, 28th Division, where he was stationed in Augsburg, Germany, during the Korean Conflict. 
Pete married Mabel Smith Boken on Nov. 5, 1954 in Rochelle; she preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2009. 
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by two step sons, William and Donald; three sisters, Alberta Weaver, Leona Johnson and Jeanet Swartz; and his brother, Wayne. 
Pete spent most of his life farming in the Lee, Ogle and DeKalb counties, and also worked at Drop Forge in DeKalb.  He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rochelle.
Pete is survived by his step children, Tom (Anita) Boken of DeKalb, and Janet Marcum of Centralia, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Jane Boken of Dixon; brother, Richard (Davette) Moland of Fleming, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Brian (Dawn) Johnson of Rochelle.
The visitation will be from 1 – 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St., Rochelle. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19 at the funeral home with Pastor Gregg Hoffmann officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Union Cemetery in Steward. 
Memorials may be made in Pete’s memory to Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard.
