CHANA — Edmond “Sonny” Thomas Gabriel, 75, of Chana, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 at his home. Edmond was born April 5, 1942, in Sterling, the son of August “Hap” and Bertha (Vervaecke) Gabriel. He was united in marriage to Virginia K. Birdsley on March 10, 1963 in Rapid City. Edmond was a member of the New Hope Fellowship Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Edmond was a manager of King’s Camp. He enjoyed working and retired only a few years prior to his passing. Edmond enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s activities and working around the King’s Camp, mowing the grass and maintaining the campground.
Edmond is survived by his wife, Virginia; three children, Guy (Toni), Teresa, and Lori Gabriel; eight grandchildren; a brother, Thomas (Joyce) Gabriel; and sister, Arline “Tootie” Husted.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 12 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth Street, in Rochelle. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Sergeant officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded.
