ROCHELLE — Fred J. Walters, 82, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Fred was born on Aug. 11, 1937 to Fred and Margaret (Coté) Walters in Rochelle.
He grew up in Rochelle, graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1956 and was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Fred was a member of the Army Reserves from 1956 to 1963. For 52 years, he was employed as a plumber/pipefitter for Local 23; he retired in 1999.
On Sept. 18, 1998, he married Nancy Bearrows-Krahenbuhl in Rochelle.
Fred enjoyed all sports but was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and NASCAR.
Fred is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Rochelle; two children, Dawn (Lonny) Anderson of Newberg, Oregon, and Greg (Schon Lowe) of Rochelle; sister-in-law, Evie Bearrows, of Rochelle; two grandchildren, Lindsay Hoyle of Grand Detour, and Taylor (Kiefer) Westlund of Medford, Oregon; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver Thomas and Ariana Renée Westlund of Medford, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 236 Kelley Drive, Rochelle, with Father Ruben Herrera officiating. The visitation will be from 9 to10:30 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the funeral. Burial will follow the service at St. Patrick Cemetery in Rochelle with military honors provided by the Eastern Lee-Ogle Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Fred’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Mercy Home for Boys and Girls or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
