ROCHELLE — Gary Lee DeToye, 72, passed away on June 24, 2017 at home with his family by his side. He was born on June 5, 1945 in Kewanee, the son of Philip and Beverly DeToye, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jane (Behrends) who he married on Dec. 27, 1970; three daughters, Tracy (Patrick) Spang of Schererville, Ind.; Petra (Jack) Cady of Clarkston, Mich.; Nicole (Patrick) Serena of Peoria; six grandchildren, Brianna and Benjamin Spang, Hannah and Ella Cady, and Henry and Hunter Serena; and his sister, Sandra Townsend of Kewanee.
Gary was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1968 as a Torpedoman, on the USS John W. Weeks and the USS Robert K. Huntington. Gary worked in the lumber business for more than 40 years as a Lumber Yard Manager in Momence, and then as a wholesale salesman, retiring from Boise Cascade in Rochelle in 2011.
He especially enjoyed being with his family, yard-work, fishing and hunting and playing with his adorable puppy, Minnie.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 2 from 2-5 p.m. at Unger Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. Sixth St., Rochelle.
A Military service will be held at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetary in Elwood on Monday, July 3 at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Doug Forsberg officiating.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or the OSF Cancer Center.
