ROCHELLE — Jack L. Barringer, 78, of Rochelle, died unexpectedly on May 21, 2020. A graveside service and burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Lawnridge Cemetery in Rochelle, on June 4, 2020.

Jack was born in Rochelle, on Sept. 21, 1941. He was united in marriage to Janice Rainwater on March 19, 1960. Jack graduated from Rochelle Township High School in 1959.  He started his career as an electrician with Ispen Industries in Cherry Valley, and also worked at De Monte and Swift & Co. of Rochelle.

He owned and operated Barringer Appliance Repair for seven years. He went on to work for 22 years at Rockford School District until his retirement in 2009.

Jack served for many years on the Ogle-Lee Volunteer Fire Department in Flagg Center and also served on the Ogle-Lee Fire Protection District Board of Trustees.

Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his five children and their families.

In his younger days he spent time with his horses, camping, family vacations, and playing cards. The last eleven years he treasured his time with his wife at their winter retirement community of Covered Bridge in Lake Placid, Florida.

Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice, and was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Clara Barringer.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his children, April (Phil) Davis, Steward, Cindy (Jeff) McCluskey, Rochelle, Kevin (Cheryl) Barringer, Oregon, Kathy (Dan) Chisamore, Rochelle, and Jeff Barringer, Burlington, Washington; grandchildren, Asheri (Bryan) Campbell, Calista Gilszmer, Niki (Chris) Bonnell, Kristi McCluskey, Shaine McCluskey, Cayla (Ken) Skoli, Kara (Eric) Van Hise, Cole (Alyssa) Barringer, Danny (Sarah) Chisamore, Hayden and Gavin Barringer; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Judy (Ken) Ponto, of Ashton; brother, Dennis (Maggie) Barringer of Rochelle; as well as several brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s who were all a special part of his life.

He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Maria Olson.

Cremation care has been provided by the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, Rochelle. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4 at Lawnridge Cemetery with Pastor Dave Rogula officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jack’s name to the Ogle-Lee Volunteer Fire Department or Rochelle Township High School.
