CHANA — Mary Diane Hart, 69, passed away on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 at the St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Mary was born on the first day of spring in 1949 in Chicago, the daughter of Richard Wagner Hart and Marybelle (Orner)Hart. She was united in life to her partner, Bill Greer.
Mary is survived by seven children, Andrew Kellogg, Myriah Peña, Haelan Hart, Robin Kellogg, Casey Kellogg, Jessie Thornton and Gabe Thornton; granddaughters, Alex Anderson and Bailey Peña and nine additional grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her former husband, David Kellogg; her brother, Steve (LaDonna) Hart; and her cousin, Jim Hart and his family.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents and life partner, Bill Greer.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Mary was the rock of Gibraltar in our family. Beloved and held dear by everyone who knew her, Mary met each day with optimism, enthusiasm, and kindness. She was energetic, lighthearted, and generous to a fault; she was the embodiment of wisdom, love, and grace. While our hearts are heavy with grief, we are comforted in knowing that she is now free from pain or worry.
Please join us in remembering and honoring her life as we, her children and grandchildren, step into the world for the first time without her.
Cremation care has been provided. A memorial visitation will take place from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Unger-Horner Funeral Home, 400 N. 6th St. in Rochelle. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Judy Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the preservation of Mary’s farm, her life legacy. Contributions may be sent to Mary’s daughter, Myriah Peña, 408 E. Lincoln Hwy. Franklin Grove, IL 61031.
