CRESTON — Rev. Robert ‘Bob’ L. Vaughn, 82, of Creston, on Dec. 16, 2018, took the Lord’s hand and became God’s newest voice in His Angelic Choir.
Robert ‘Bob’ was born on Feb. 6, 1936, in Chicago, to Cread and Betty Vaughn. Bob served in the United States Navy as a draftsman from 1953-1961. He graduated from Seminary in 1964. During his 54 years since graduation, he served at 15 United Methodist Churches in the Northern Illinois Conference. His last call to service was at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Malta where he had served the last 13 years.
During his service at Hampshire United Methodist, he met and fell in love with his wife, Susan. They were married on Sept. 7, 1985.
Bob loved to play golf, drink Pepsi and learn new technology. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved Snoopy and the Peanuts gang, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and old movies.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Vaughn; his children, Kathy Vaughn and Ken Vaughn (and their mother Marilyn); his stepdaughters, Suellen Byrd (Jimbo), Carol (Eric) Drake, Dawn (Willie) Thorn; his nine grandchildren, Amber, William, Samuel, John (Zekira), Zackery (Hailey), Hannah (James), James (Brianna), Heather and Olivia; his four great-grandchildren Lacey, Sammy, Morgyn and Ava; his sister, Marguerite Bernhardt; and his brother, Jack Vaughn.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 210 S. 3rd St., Malta, with the Rev. Dr. Noah Panlilio of the Malta United Methodist Church and Bob’s longtime friend, Rev. Edward Lee Tucker officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at Malta Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at the church.
