The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team remained on the winning path Wednesday evening, sweeping its nonconference triangular meet against Marengo and Sterling and running its streak to five consecutive dual victories. Rochelle (7-1, 0-0 Interstate 8) defeated Sterling 53-18 and cruised over Marengo 62-11 to conclude the evening with two more wins. The Hubs will host Ottawa and LaSalle-Peru on Thursday.

MARENGO — The Rochelle Hub varsity wrestling team remained on the winning path Wednesday evening, sweeping its nonconference triangular meet against Marengo and Sterling and running its streak to five consecutive dual victories. Rochelle (7-1, 0-0 Interstate 8) defeated Sterling 53-18 and cruised over Marengo 62-11 to conclude the evening with two more wins. The Hubs will host Ottawa and LaSalle-Peru on Thursday.

Sterling

Junior Kaiden Morris opened the match against the Golden Warriors with a win in the 285-pound bout, scoring one takedown, one near fall and one reversal during his second-period win by fall over Oswaldo Navarro. Sophomore Freddie Hernandez followed with a first-period takedown and fall over Christopher Ramirez in the 106-pound bout before sophomore Keagan Albers compiled two takedowns and one near fall during his second-period fall over Evan Jones in the 113-pound bout.

Senior Tommy Tourdot and junior Xavier Villalobos extended the Rochelle lead to 27-0, with Tourdot recording two takedowns and a first-period fall over Cael Lyons in the 120-pound bout and Villalobos fending off Zyan Westbrook for a 4-1 decision in the 126-pound bout. Sophomore Frank Nasca dominated the 132-pound bout against Ayden Shaw, compiling three near falls and two takedowns before earning a second-period fall. Sterling's Austin Clemens scored the team's first win, outlasting sophomore Deegan Schabacker for a 3-2 decision in the 138-pound bout.

The Golden Warriors added another win in the 144-pound bout, where Landon Kenney notched a first-period fall over freshman Brandin Kirk. Sophomore Brenden Voight gave Rochelle a 36-9 lead in the match, defeating Dylan Ottens with a 5-0 decision in the 150-pound bout. Sterling's Isaiah Mendoza claimed the 157-pound bout, recording a second-period fall over junior Matthew Lynn.

Junior Grant Gensler strung together four near falls, one reversal and one takedown in his 15-0 technical fall over Tatum Allen in the 165-pound bout. Sterling's Gage Tate took a close 175-pound bout against sophomore Roman Villalobos, scoring a takedown and near fall in overtime to win by 16-11 sudden victory. Senior Brock Metzger brought Rochelle back in the 190-pound bout, taking down and securing a first-period fall against Sidney Eichen. Senior Frank Decena received a forfeit in the 215-pound bout to seal the win for the Hubs.

Marengo

Sophomore Keagan Albers kicked off the match against the Indians with a first-period takedown and fall over Jonathon Sebring in the 113-pound bout. Senior Tommy Tourdot and junior Xavier Villalobos followed with first-period takedowns and falls over Gavin Prudlick and Andrew Lozada in the 120-pound and 126-pound bouts. Sophomore Frank Nasca defeated Hayden Beebe with a first-period fall in the 132-pound bout.

Sophomore Deegan Schabacker continued the momentum for the Hubs, giving the team a 30-0 lead with a first-period takedown and fall over Hunter Boley in the 138-pound bout. Marengo notched its first victory of the match during the 144-pound bout, where Mason Lampe scored a 15-0 technical fall over freshman Brandin Kirk. Sophomore Brenden Voight had no trouble during the 150-pound bout against Christian Gamboa, totaling two takedowns and three near falls before winning by a second-period fall.

Marengo's Ryan Hess took the 157-pound bout, defeating junior Matthew Lynn via third-period fall. Junior Grant Gensler and sophomore Roman Villalobos followed the Rochelle loss with back-to-back wins, as Gensler earned two takedowns and a third-period fall over Gavin Baros in the 165-pound bout before Villalobos secured a takedown, two near falls and a second-period fall over Connor Sacco in the 175-pound bout. Senior Brock Metzger outlasted Marengo's Maverick Quatroke in the 190-pound bout, earning a 1-0 decision.

Junior Kaiden Morris put the Hubs ahead 56-11, winning the 215-pound bout with three near falls and two takedowns during a 15-0 technical fall over Devin Storti. Sophomore Freddie Hernandez concluded the dual against the Indians with a victory in the 106-pound bout, taking down and securing a first-period fall over Riley Gavin.
