Rochelle Community Hospital will host the Northern Illinois Food Bank for a mobile market food pantry on Thursday, March 14 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Five talented swimmers from Rochelle have achieved an impressive feat by qualifying for the district and state championships through the DeKalb County Swim Team. 

Fourteen seniors departed from the Rochelle Hub varsity tennis team after the 2023 season, where the netters went 12-6 overall and 1-4 in the Interstate 8 Conference under head coach Kristy Eckardt.

The Rochelle Lady Hub varsity softball team returned to action Monday, holding its first practice of the 2024 season. The Lady Hubs are eager to build on a 5-21 overall record and a 2-12 record in the Interstate 8 last season, the second under head coach Deanna Jacobs.

The Rochelle Hub varsity baseball team leaned on its offense during the 2023 season, when the purple and white finished with a 10-19 overall record and a 4-10 record in the Interstate 8 Conference.

Former Rochelle student-athlete James Hart has reached the highest level in NCAA Division III college football, helping the North Central College Cardinals to three national championship appearances as well as two national championship victories, including a 28-21 win over Mount Union to claim the 2022 championship, during his first three seasons with the program.

According to USDA about 97% of the United States’ 2.1 million farms are considered family farms and 88% of all U.S. farms have a gross cash farm income of less than $350,000 annually, putting them in the small family farm category.

At its meeting Monday, the Rochelle City Council unanimously approved a resolution establishing water reclamation rates for Rochelle Municipal Utilities that will take effect Aug. 1.

The Rochelle Fire Department saw another record in total emergency call numbers in 2023. Firefighter/paramedics responded to 2,674 EMS calls and 455 fire calls for a total of 3,129. 

On Monday, Jason Harper, superintendent of both Rochelle school districts, made an informational presentation to the community on the county school facilities sales tax referendum item that will be appearing on the March 19 election ballot.

The members of the Ogle County Democratic Central Committee made a difference in their community by recently donating a total of $800 amongst eight Ogle County food pantries, an idea that originated during the pandemic as a unique way to celebrate the holiday season together since in person gatherings were not possible.

Rochelle Township High School District #212 recently announced that RTHS Assistant Principal Dr. David J. Perrin has been recognized as the Illinois Principal Association (IPA) Assistant Principal of the Year for the state's Northwest Region.

On Feb. 22 at 10:02 a.m. Irma Ugalde, 28, of Rochelle was cited for no valid registration. She signed a promise to comply and was given an April 5 Rochelle court date.

On Feb. 23 at approximately 3 p.m. deputies arrested Montana Chesko, 21, of Rochelle on an outstanding warrant for aggravated battery to a nurse.  Chesko appeared in court and was arrested on a failure to appear warrant. Chesko posted bond and does not have to return to court.

Rebecca “Becky” Barry, 80, of North Haverhill, NH passed away at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville on February 22, 2024.  

Barbara Arlene Detig, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at her home in Lindenwood, Illinois. 

Stevie Dodillet, 33, of Rochelle IL passed away Sunday January 28th 2024.

Elaine Mae (Hackman) Jacox, 97, of Steward, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Stonecroft Village in Mendota.

Brian Jude Jaeger, 68, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, Illinois.

On Monday, a ribbon cutting and grand opening event was held for K&K Creative Links, a new business that offers custom-fit permanent jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces and anklets. K&K Creative Links resides inside The Cypress House at 718 10th Ave. in Rochelle and does private parties as well. 

Michelle Pease (president) and Lance Charnock (president-elect) currently serve in leadership positions of the Rochelle Rotary Club. 

After being born and raised in Rochelle, Carl Hansen made the decision to enlist into the United States Army in 1949. 

Despite entering the postseason with a losing record, the Rochelle Hub varsity basketball team came within a few points of winning its second IHSA 3A Regional title in three years, knocking off a 20-win Woodstock squad and nearly upsetting a 21-win Freeport team.
