CRESTON – The monthly Creston board meeting began with Village President Wayne Williams reading an email sent to board officials from Casey’s Gas Station requesting to begin offering curbside liquor service. The gas station currently sells liquor inside, but is asking for permission to begin bringing it out to patron’s vehicles.
“The email needs to be signed by somebody from Casey’s but when they sign it we will allow it,” Williams said.
Next, board members passed a motion to approve the fiscal year 2021 budget and appropriation ordinance. No changes were made to the ordinance, but the village is expected to lose around $7,000 in tax money due to COVID-19.
Old Business

The next item on the agenda was the results of the recent water tower inspection and cleaning. Inspectors recommend updating three areas as soon as possible. These three areas include proper water tower tank vents shields, the tower hatch locking mechanism and security system and securing the tank perimeter.
“The cleaning and inspection crew uses a rating system of 1-10, with 10 being the best,” Village Engineer Kevin Bunge said. “I would say that 95 percent of the things that they looked at were rated at a 10.”

New Business
Another item requiring action by board members was the need to review and update the current golf cart ordinance. Board members expressed concern for the safety of other residents after seeing many golf carts, mini bikes, and go carts driving around town at high speeds and disobeying traffic laws. Other concerns are that these vehicles are uninsured and parking illegally throughout town.
“It has been 10 years since we have adopted this ordinance and there haven’t been any changes,” Village Clerk Deanne Haub said. “We have had a few issues with uninsured vehicles as well as new types of vehicles that people would like seen added to this ordinance.
Board members will review the ordinance as well as compare it to surrounding community’s ordinances and make a decision at next month’s meeting.”
